As a Regional University Transportation Center (UTC), the Southern Plains Transportation Center (SPTC) is committed to strengthening the UTC program’s legacy of invaluable contributions to transportation education and workforce development by executing a comprehensive strategy of innovative programs with a strong diversity-building component that encourages K-12 students, college students, or adult learners to become transportation professionals. An important element of SPTC’s workforce development effort is the Transportation Regional Internship Program (TRIP).

SARAH MARTINEZ
The University of New Mexico
Expected graduation date: May 2025
Sarah was employed for the summer of 2024 as a Field Engineer Student Intern for RMCI, general contractor out of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was assigned to the White Rock Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvement Project. There she assisted in concrete testing, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPP) inspections, and utilized ProCore for walking through and documenting fieldwork, editing drawings, and going through requests for information.
FERNANDO CRUZ
University of New Mexico
Expected Graduation : May 2025
Fernando was employed as a Civil Engineering Intern for BSN Santa Fe and worked for the company this summer. He assisted in several tasks for different projects, including plan revision, material testing, and sample recollections. Some of the plans and drawings where structural, drainage and grading, driveways and more. Fernando Also assisted with the preparation of some reports and documents.
